About Catholic Charities

Mission

To promote healing, restore hope and affirm human potential through services that empower, voices that speak for justice; and, partnerships that strengthen communities.

Values and Vision

We are an embodiment of Church called to the social mission of Jesus Christ. As Catholic and Christian, we respect the holiness of all creation, yet recognize the need for spiritual renewal in individuals and in society. Within the traditional call to social mission, our charism is to generate renewal as reconcilers who foster a healing bond among individuals, families, the community and God. We recognize the dignity and gifts of each person and accept the diversity of responses to God’s call to be fully human. We offer corporate witness to the importance of the creation of caring communities and a social order based on gospel values.

This vision summons us to live out the interdependent values of love and justice to lift oppression and heal the pain brought about by individual and social sin. We struggle to discern the causes of brokenness of individuals and families, of groups and of society itself. Our mutual responsibility is to uphold the dignity of each person through the work of reconciliation at all levels of society. We will be particularly sensitive to those who are poor, the least reconciled in our society, and especially those inadequately served by governmental agencies, in order to bring them to fuller participation in appropriate communities. Striving for partnership with local churches and caring organizations, our challenge is to extend the action of Christ to those in physical, emotional or spiritual need through service, advocacy and convening.

Your Help Is Needed – Vote for St. Augustine School by December 19th!

Please help one of our fellow ACUE schools…
St. Augustine School would like to upgrade its technology infrastructure by providing wireless access throughout the building in the hopes of beginning a one-to-one initiative for its middle school students. The Clorox Company’s “Power A Bright Future” grant program can help make this happen. After a competitive national nomination period, now it is time for the community to show its support. Help St. Augustine School win up to $50,000 by casting votes starting November 12, 2012  through December 19, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. Adults and children 13 and older can visit www.PowerABrightFuture.com to vote once a day. Neighbors, friends and family can also vote for their favorite school right from their phones via text message (message and data rates may apply).

The program that receives the highest number of votes will be awarded the $50,000 grand-prize grant, and the next top vote-getters in the Play, Create and Explore categories respectively will each be awarded a $25,000 grant. The Clorox judging panel will select three additional lucky schools, one in each category, to win a$25,000 judge’s choice grant.

St. Augustine School can be one of only seven schools nationwide to win a grant, and you can help push the school to the top. Please share information about the competition with your family, friends, neighbors and coworkers and encourage them to vote for St. Augustine School. Your vote can make a difference in the lives of our students.

For details and official rules visit www.PowerABrightFuture.com or for information on St. Augustine School contact principal Notre Dame Sister Maria Therese Schappert, smtherese@staugustines.net
